Personae Dramatis
- In Order of Speaking Roles -
Michael Knight – A field agent for the Foundation for Law and Government, partner and friend of KITT
KARR – The Knight Automated Roving Robot, KITT's predecessor with a loathing for the Foundation for Law and Government and its work
KITT – The Knight Industries Two Thousand, a sentient Trans AM, partner and friend of Michael Knight

-.-.-.-

Scene opens in a back alley of a generic city, nighttime. Michael is in a Mexican standoff with KARR, who is idling several yards in front of him; KITT is off to one side

Michael
So what do you want me to do, KARR? Roll over and die?

KARR
Menacing, but spoken as if he has the upper hand
That's precisely what I expect you do.

KITT
Spoken as if addressing the audience directly
Here we are again—Michael staring certain death in the face. He has a tendency to do that, you understand. It's something I've never understood—the first time around, perhaps… simply because it was through no fault of his. The other times, it's Michael's own recklessness. Every assignment, sooner or later, Michael will be looking down the barrel of a gun, or be in mortal danger. You would think this would sober up a man, make him less inclined to take risks. Not Michael. …I admit, it is one of his charms. I also admit that I know very little of who Michael was—that is, Michael Long—so I can't quite say if this is a carry over from his previous life or if it's as new as his identity; what little I have learned, I did so by talking to him, by listening to what he's willing to tell me. I suppose that's what ties us closer than either of us expected—the trust he has to share information about Michael Long with me. Me, the Knight Industries Two Thousand… A car. It's a trust that, to my knowledge, he has never given any one else—quite the honor, one I'm proud to have received. And to be fair, I trust him too—I trust him to know exactly when he's over his head—

KARR
Starting to charge Michael

Michael
Spoken into his comm-watch
KITT, I need you!

KITT
Like now, for instance. If you'll excuse me—
Speeding to intercept, positioning himself between KARR and Michael

END
Fandom / Setting: Classic Knight Rider
Type of Writing: One Scene Wonder / Soliloquy
Written for: #House-of-Playwrights Weekly-ish Challenge – Staring Evil / Death in the Face

Knight Rider instantly came to mind, particularly the pilot… and then all the other times Michael’s been a gnat’s whisker away from having his mail forwarded to Kingdom Come. That’s part of what make Michael so badass—when confronted with death, he meets it with his head held high.

Again, I don’t write a very good Michael. >>; Given KITT’s relationship with Michael, and his penchant for the classics (is this canon established or inferred? xD ), why not give our favorite Trans AM a soliloquy?

It’s super short, and if there’s supposed to a meter or a structure here I totally threw that out the window and into the Kuskokwim River, but I prefer to think I crammed a lot in here and am very pleased with the end result. ^^ I had fun breaking the fourth wall with KITT. A lot of times, when he’s complaining about something but Michael isn’t around to hear it, it often reads likes he’s breaking the fourth wall anyway, so it sort of came as second nature. As to whether or not KITT made it to Michael in time… Well, if you’ve seen any episode of Knight Rider, you’ll know how it happens. ;P

I enjoyed this challenge. I may do more in the future. c:

Is this supposed to be preformed onstage? Because the whole car thing might be difficult.
