Bandmates and All

Having worked with the band for as long as she had, Ayame had more or less earned the right to come into the recording studio as often as she pleased.

This, of course, often meant coming into a war zone— as it did today. The moment she opened the door to the conference room, her senses were bombarded with arguing voices— specifically, the arguing voices of bassist Romano Vargas and secondary guitarist Yong Seo Im. Something about the order of the new album? The drummer Heracles… well she suspected he was a little short of hearing— how else could he sleep through all the shouting?

And then there was lead guitar Matthew, sitting at the head of the table and doodling on his yellow legal pad.

"Meeting going well?" Ayame asked, coming to stand next to him.

Matthew looked up at her and smiled. “They’ll run out of steam eventually.” He laid his pencil aside. “What do you have for us, Ya Ya?”

Ayame blushed at the nickname, but didn’t correct him. “A request from Rolling Stone,” she replied, laying a file folder in front of him. “They would like an interview with all of you for the July issue.”  

"I’ll bring it up when those two hosers quit hollering," he replied. "Arigatou.”

“De rien,” Ayame answered, returning the favor of using Matthew’s native tongue.

"Hey, do you want to get coffee later?" Matthew called after her as she started to leave.

Ayame paused, her hand on the doorframe. “I would like that.”

Matthew grinned. He knew about her quirk, where “I will consider it” meant “no,” so the fact that she was so forthright with him made him possibly the happiest singer alive.
